What do we do with Joshua?

Every year I get bogged down and very depressed when we get to the book of Joshua. Read objectivelly, Joshua was a despot and a terrorist. If someone today was doing what Joshua was doing, we would be demanding that the UN take action, that something be done to stop the slaughter, to get rid of this tyrant. And that he claims to be doing it in the nameofGod makes it even worse. If these words were in the Koran, we'd see it as evidence that Islamis a violent religion. But here they are in our own Bible! What are we to do with Joshua:-)

My keyboard was acting up, and my comment wasn't meant to end with a smiley face! I'm certainly not smiling! Reading Joshua indeed threatens my faith. What do we do with Joshua?
